We were recommended by the vet to get this supplement for our nearly 26 year old horse who had recently suffered from a couple of bouts of impaction. The product had made a huge difference to her and also, improved her overall condition.

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding NAF In the Pink Senior for Horses, including answers from our team.
Maggie Anderson
I have 2 tb seniors, aged 21, 16.2 and 17.2, they both live out but one of them does get "down" in the winter, looses condition and is generally a bit lackluster. My vet recommended Pink senior and I want to try it but don't want to fork out on a large one, which I would usually do, in case either of them (especially the big lad!) gets a bit too frisky, as one of your reviewers reported. Would the small tub provide enough for me to notice a difference for the 2 of them before I invest in the largest tub?
The feeding instructions for this product are as follows. Based on this information your horses will need 90g per day at maintenance dosing, so the small tub should provide enough for a 5 day course for both horses. This may not be enough to determine it is helping. It can take weeks to work out if a product is helping, in general it is worth trying for 6 to 8 weeks of a supplement before ruling it out as not appropriate. There is no harm buying a medium sized tub (1.8kg) which will provide enough for a 10 day course for both horses though, if this is all you can afford. You may see positive results this quickly.
| Add to daily feed when the diet of the older horse needs balancing with micronutrients. Includes key gut, joint and herbal support to maintain condition, mobility, vitality and ‘spark’ in older horses and ponies. |

Hi my 17 year old highland practically lives on fresh air he has EMS and is currently out of work due to a ligament issue so keeping weight off is extremely difficult. He had a bit of a stressy tummy recently after being on box rest and thought this might be good for him to get him back on track. Would it be okay to give him this please? He gets soaked hay and 2 small feeds per day of top chop zero and thunderbrooks organic meadow nuts so he can have his joint supplement and lamialert. Thanks
A probiotic supplement is a good idea for most horses, particularly those having had a period of box rest. It is not particularly high in starch/sugar so should not cause weight gain in your horse.

Looking for extra weight gain for my old boy as he is dropping off. He has Cushings and is on a large feed of Mollicalmer, Readigrass, Cushcare, Speedibeet and some Pegasus nuts.
Would this help gain weight?
Yes this supplement is safe for use in a Cushingoid horse on the diet you suggest. Generally you want to avoid excess sugar in cushingoid horses as diabetes can be a complication of the disease. The product will help provide the right nutrients for normal body and gut function which can help with weight gain. However it is not a weight building supplement and so it is not guaranteed to do this. Unfortunately weight building supplements often contain high sugar levels as this helps with weight gain, so you are unlikely to find an appropriate supplement aimed mainly at weight building for a Cushingoid horse.

Does this product contain the same probiotics and prebiotics as the NAF Biotics supplement please? I have had good results from the Biotics supplement but this one appears to also have vitamins and minerals in it. My 24 year old pony has cushings disease and had a gut operation 4 years ago so is sensitive to changes etc but is in good health.
In the Pink Senior would be an ideal supplement for your pony. It contains many of the same pro and prebiotics as the Biotics supplement but is an advanced formula providing extra antioxidants, vitamins and minerals helpful to older horses and ponies.

My mare always gets a runny bum when on haylege. She is part of a herd and they all have our own haylege. She won't eat hay and loves the haylege. Her stools are normal just when has wind she leaks fluid.
I've been advised pink powder senior would help. Do have to be careful with what I give her as she has had a serious bout of colic and also suffers from Azortoria. She's a retired 23 yr old Welsh cob. Thanks
A probiotic such as this would be ideal for your mare and may well help. It is perfectly safe to give to her considering her tendency to colic and in fact may help to prevent further episodes by maintaining a healthy gut. It is also unlikely to cause her to tie up so I would give it a try.

does it help put on weight? my 16 year old warmblood struggles to put on weight over winter and I'm not sure what to put her on to boost her weight as she already has peas and other fat boosting foods
NAF in the pink for senior horses is not a product which aims to put on weight, it is formulated to maintain and help normal gut function. It should be used alongside build up type feeds if weight gain is desired. What you use to put on weight will depend on the type and use of a horse. For example some feeds designed to be high calorie will make a horse 'fizzy' which is undesirable if you want to go for a quiet hack. It is always worth getting a feed company nutritionist to come up with a specific diet for you horse. This is a free service offered by the feed companies (the phone numbers being on their websites or on the back of a feed bag) but it means sticking to their products but I don't see this as a big issue as most of the big companies are very good and have similar products. I have an ex racer who struggles to maintain weight in the winter months due to increased work levels and colder weather (don't forget horses use a lot of energy to keep warm so rugging up well helps) he is on Dobson and Horrell High calorie Alfa alfa, Staypower cubes and Build and Glow. Adding a small amount of soya or corn oil can add calories but is generally not very palatable.

Is this safe to feed an elderly laminitic pony
Thanks
The mixture of ingredients in this product should be perfectly safe for older ponies and for individuals prone to laminitis. It is certainly OK to give to your pony.
