Below are some recent questions we've received regarding NexGard Spectra, including answers from our team.

Does Nexgard treat worms, fleas and ticks
NexGard treats fleas, ticks and roundworms including lungworm. It does not cover tapeworm so you should use a tapewormer alongside this, such as Droncit.

Can this tablet be given with food or on its own.
The datasheet for this product states the following:
Method of administration: The tablets are chewable and palatable to most dogs. If the dog does not accept the tablets directly they may be administered with food.

Does my dog also need Endogard along with the Nexgard Spectra?
NexGard Spectra will not cover tapeworm so it is advised to use a tapewormer alongside this. EndoGard can be used for this and is safe for use alongside NexGard Spectra. However you will be double dosing on the roundworms, it is therefore preferable to use a tapewormer only product such as Droncit.

Is this suitable for puppies?
The datasheet for this product states the following:
In the absence of available data, treatment of puppies less than 8 weeks of age and dogs less than 2 kg bodyweight should be based on a benefit-risk assessment by the responsible veterinarian.
Therefore it can be used in puppies, as long as they are 8 weeks or older and 2kg or heavier.

i have just wormed my 7 month puppy ,can i give her nexgard specta as well
Nexgard Spectra contains milbemcyin as one of it's ingredients which is a wormer, it covers roundworms including lungworm. It may not be suitable to use it alongside your other wormer. This depends on what the ingredient of the other wormer is. Please contact us on [email protected] if you need more specific advice.

Do you give 1 tablet of the nexgard spectra 7.5 to 15kg for a dog weighing 7.5kg?
If your dog weighs exactly 7.5kg then you should give the >3.5kg to 7.5kg Nexgard Spectra according to the datasheet. The >7.5kg to 15kg Nexgard Spectra is for dogs weighing over 7.5kg.
This is a prescription only product so you should use the dose that your vet has prescribed.

During an infestation how long should it take to work ? We have treated our home with indorex and our dog with this product. We have hoovered religiously and washed boil washed all we can.
I recommend reading our blog 'Help - my pet's got fleas!' for a guide on how to clear this. 95% of the fleas life cycle is not on your pet, it is in the bedding/environment. It is important to treat these areas too.
The pupae/eggs are also extremely hard to kill and live fleas will hatch every 3-4 weeks in household conditions. Therefore you may see a resurgence but this is normal. It can take 2 to 3 months to clear an infestation.

My dog is 16,5 kg.
Do I give him a chewable NexGard Spectra, instead of a pipette once a month and a Drontal once every 3 months?
Yes this would be good, though theoretically you only need to give a Droncit, not a Drontal, every 3 months. (Droncit is just for tapeworms and that is all you need along with NexGard. Drontal has an extra ingredient to control roundworms, which are covered by the NexGard anyway.) It would be safe enough either way, but ideally you avoid giving unnecessary medication.
